Punch is a general term for varieties of mixed drinks, alcoholic or non-alcoholic but often contains fruit or fruit juice. Fruit punch is an easy beverage to prepare and especially suitable to cater parties. Punch drink is served on a large bowl known as punch bowl with a ladle – whoever interested in this punch drink can just scoop them up and pour into their own glass.
You may have noted that I’m not using a punch bowl but a pretty large glass jar for my Apple Pear Punch. It has managed to attract the curious party crowd most of the time, especially kids!
Honeycrisp apple and fragrant pear are my favourites for this Apple Pear Punch recipe. You can choose any other varieties of apple and pear fruit of your preference. Apples blend nicely with grapes therefore I opted for grape syrup. Be creative and you too can create your own punch recipes.
Whichever varieties of apple or pear fruit chosen make sure they are firm and bruise-free. Determine by softly pressing them with your fingers and inspecting possibility of bruise on the body. Choose those with stem on. It is said that apples and pears store longer with stem on.
During preparation (peeling, coring and dicing the apple and pear fruit), a bowl of salt water would help a lot in preserving the appearance. These fruits especially apples, turn brownish in contact with air. Dip them in salt water after removing their protective layer – the skin. They will not turn brown when mixed into cold syrup later (don’t add the salt water into the syrup!! Only the fruits), you’ll get a nice Apple Pear Punch your guests would yearn for more!
