- FRENCH TOAST
French Toast is usually made of bread and eggs. You don’t even have to ask how to make French Toast once you know the ingredients. Just soak bread in beaten eggs and brown it in a frying pan. In this French Toast recipe, milk and sugar are also added. French Toast is normally topped with butter, syrup or fruits and served as breakfast in western countries. French Toast also serves well as brunch or snack. Hmm…especially with a glass of fresh orange juice.
You can play around with different ingredients to make French Toast recipe more exciting. Here are some minor suggestions. Bread used in this French Toast recipe can be the usual white bread or the long French bread often used to make garlic bread as well. I would also recommend white bread that has turned hard or been refrigerated. Although expired according to expiry date, white bread can last at least another week in the chiller but it would become a bit firm. Such bread doesn’t turn soft too easily when soaked in egg mixture.
Honey and butter are used as toppings for this French Toast recipe. You can also premix honey and butter (just combine them evenly in a small bowl) and lay on top of French Toast. There are many more toppings for French Toast such as chocolate fondue, whipped cream, banana and maple syrup to name a few. Milk can be substituted with yoghurt for an even fuller and creamier taste. Soya bean milk make good substitute for fresh milk too. If you find French Toast too sweet for you, consider using salt for the egg mixture instead of sugar. This will give a different taste to the French Toast.
SARDINE FRENCH TOAST For this French Toast recipe, you can use anchovy sambal and canned sardine to be sandwiched in between to suit Asian (or Malaysian to be exact) taste buds. A foreign friend once commented that Malaysians love eating food with cut chillies, sambal, chilli sauce or tomato sauce. So true isn’t it? If you prefer French Toast the western style, you can also top it with jam or peanut butter.
You can make French Toast for breakfast, lunch, brunch or snack. Other than filling, French Toast is easy to carry in small lunch box and make quick lunch for the busy ones like us
