Ibu Robotku Sayang, Survival in a Volcano, Survival in a Plain

Ibu-Robotku-Sayang

Language: Bahasa Malaysia
Publisher: Anjung Taipan Sdn. Bhd.
Cartoonist: Wang Xiao Yang
Category : Josei (late-teenage, middle-aged female)

Ibu Robotku Sayang is a beloved manga that will move readers to tears. The story takes place in a futuristic setting, much alike to that in Astro Boy and Megaman, where sentient robots and humans co-exist in bleak, industrialized cities. In this world, robots and humans have an uneasy standoff, with the former just trying to get by while the latter barely conceals their distaste for the robots.

The main character, Sinbell, is a young boy who has lost his parents in an accident when he was still very small. To accommodate the loss of his parents, the Welfare Ministry send a robot “mother” to take care of him. Sinbell absolutely despises his mother, because he is afraid that his classmates will find out. At the same time, his “mother” tries her best to gain his approval, always displaying her love for him even during unreasonable times.

The plot has been given much thought, and the ending is so touching that it leaves you with something to bring home after you put the book down. At the end of the book, there’s even a prologue that explains how Sinbell lost his parents, and why the robot mother loves Sinbell so much. Readers will enjoy how well the author wraps up the story, with no loose ends hanging, something which has destroyed so many otherwise perfect storylines.

Survival-in-a-Volcano

Language: English
Publisher: Anjung Taipan Sdn. Bhd.
Cartoonist: Story by: Hong Jae-Cheol, Art by: Jeong Jun-Gyu
Category : Educational

Survival in a Volcano starts with Dolly, Monch and Lina enjoying a plane trip to visit a volcano for educational purposes. All hell breaks loose (literally) when the volcano starts erupting and their plane crash lands! The story follows the trio’s efforts to free themselves from the volcano’s grasp and how they survive the volcano’s many dangers, such as mudslides, acid rivers, tephras and pyroclastic flows.

The author intends that the manga to be an educational print as well as a fun read. In between pages, there are pages that specifically teach you about volcanos, complete with colour pictures of lava flows and the like. In fact, the book has been so successful that it has sold over 8 million copies in Korea alone!

Survival-in-a-Plain

Language: Chinese
Publisher: Anjung Taipan Sdn. Bhd.
Cartoonist: Story by: Hong Jae-Cheol, Art by: Jeong Jun-Gyu
Category : Educational

Survival in a Plain, however, teaches you how to … well, survive in an African Savannah. The book is written by the same author as Survival in a Volcano, and also aims to provide a fun educational experience while learning about the wild African plains. In this story, Dolly and friends get abandoned by their tour guides, who incidentally are illegal poachers, while in the middle of a savannah. As they find their way out of the jungle, they come across lions, deers, wildfires and elephants. In keeping with the title of the story, the author also teaches simple survival skills like how to collect fresh water with socks, how to clean a deer for eating and how to escape from hyenas.

Ratings:
Ibu Robotku Sayang: 3.9 out of 5
Survival in a Volcano: 3.8 out of 5
Survival in a Plain: 3.5 out of 5

Conclusion:
Ibu Robotku Sayang isn’t exactly a genius of artwork, but it succeeds marvelously in the area of its storyline. Many other books, like The Law of Ueki and Inuyasha, have managed to achieve fame and fortune through their great storylines despite not having fantastic drawings.

Survival in a Volcano and Survival in a Plain are both very educational reads while being fun at the same time. Indeed, it isn’t easy to combine these two advantages, and the story writer Hong Jae-Cheol and Jeong Jun-Gyu have done well. The fact that both books have sold over 8 million copies is a testament to how good they really are.

Ibu Robotku Sayang is really awesome. It is a really touching comic.
Frankly said, it was the first comic to moved me to tears. And at the
end of the comic, there is some thought written by the cartoonist himself about how he loves
and misses his mother but he never show and express it to his mother. After reading the
though, i moved to tears again because i feel the the thought that written by the cartoonist really resembles my feeling alot.
This is the comic has alot of moral values and I would really sugget it to my friends and family.
    =D
