Penang born & raised, Andrew LD got our attention with his contemporary English-Malay of Oh Sayang (available at http://www.reverbnation.com/andrewld). The song is unmistakably English yet feels very much Malaysian, being infused with Malay words.
(Oh btw, we love that song so much, we got him to compose The BIG Bibik & The Little Nyonyas Cookshow theme song too!).
We contacted him and soon we were to find out more about this Penang born singer… who is like his songs… fully Malaysian – he speaks Malay, English & Hokkien. Here’s the full interview.
1. What would be your most popular hit?
Beautiful Seduction, which lasted 7 weeks on Fly FM’s Campur Chart.
2. What is your favourite composition. Why?
I would definitely give the credit to “Not My Soul” as it was my first proper song that i wrote for someone special and properly recorded it, which pretty much shot me to little glam during my high school days when I was 19 years old. it still gives me goosebumps when i recall myself sitting on that bed and unfolding the tunes to the song. bbrrrrr….
3. Who are your idols?
it will be Michael Jackson. he is an entertainer from another realm who sets the highest of the highest. To me he is not the king of pop…he is the ultimate entertainer.
why?….it was when i saw his first videos and listen to his music as a kid at 9 years old that i pop the question to my brother…”can i be a singer/artiste too?”…annnndddd he entertains me extremely like no other!
*We are a big fan of The King Of Pop too!
4. You are very passionate about the Malaysian music industry – what drives you?
Malaysia is where I’m born in….and I’m planning to be in Malaysia till the day i die. I’m in the music industry business. Unlike some parts of the world, Malaysia is uniquely challenged in its own ways where it doesn’t completely favors the business just yet. The only way i can survive living my PASSION till i die is by driving the industry together with me up the sky and the only thing that’s fueling me is passion!

5. You come from a mix parentage and from a beautiful state, Penang… how does all these influence you?
My loving giving comedic father is indian and my best food for soul warmest angel mum is Chinese, i get to experience ALMOST the best and worst of both worlds…. i pick the good values of both my parents combined that with all their sacrifice which i witness during when i was growing up thus came ANDREW LD.
Penang is a wonderful wonderful state…and i’m not saying this because i’m just born here…i’ve traveled alot in malaysia… Penang gives me a BALANCED life socially,environmentally,culture-ly too …..this is the only reason why i decided to start my business here and also not move down to kl unless it really really requires me to do so in the future.
6. Would your friends knew that you’d be a singer someday? What do they say now?
hmm….i would say… yes….cause i was running around in school with my guitar rocking the classes down! I was an attention freak!
My TRUE friends are happy for me….they have always supported me all the way and kept my high spirits to the direction i want to head towards. Guys…little advice…friends can bring you down and can bring u up…make sure u know which is the real kind.

9. What was the inspiration for The Big Bibik – Little Nyonyas song?
hmm….i’ve always find the baba & nyonya characters very colorful and cheerful. thats how the song came about to be sounding so cheeky in a way… do i get to eat some of the food from the show?

10. Your musical dreams will come true when….
i dont know when and what will be my musical dreams but i think i’ll just keep doing what i do now cause i enjoy doing it, i guess i’m living the dream itself already and in the process of growing it…. hence the initial “LD” – LIVING DREAM
