You may not realize it but shopping, just like most human activities, have a harmful impact on our planet in many ways. Read on to understand these effects and find out what you can do about them.
1. Plastic shopping bags
I think it’s safe to assume that most readers are aware of how harmful plastic is to the environment. When you shop, your collection of plastic bags tends to build up and most of you would never consider recycling!
How do you, as a fashionistas, solve this problem? Simple enough: don’t accept plastic bags! Carry a tote or an environmental shopping bag when you’re out shopping! If you absolutely HAVE to accept a plastic bag, make sure you re-use it at least once and recycle it afterwards.
2. Wastage
A lot of shopaholics buy things on impulse and never wear them. Others wear items once or twice then chuck them aside. This is a huge waste as the earth’s natural resources do go into producing these items.
To solve this problem, think carefully before making a purchase. Make sure it is truly something you will use. This saves money and avoids wastage!
You can also re-sell your items. Find them a good home! There are several ways to do this:
- Re-sell brand new items bought online at www.shoppinggazebo.blogspot.com
- Set up a second hand blogshop to sell your items. Get your blogshop linked to review blogs like www.thriftbook.com and www.diaryofane-shopaholic.blogspot.com to receive more viewers.
- Get a few friends together and set up a booth at a bazaar! Rental is only around RM 70 which, when split between friends, is a small price to pay!
Another option is to donate these items. Any orphanage would accept them gratefully. Alternatively, donate them to the Chic Pop bazaar where they would be re-sold and all profits will go to the Women’s Aid Organization.
Just follow these simple tips to shop in a more eco friendly manner. Believe it or not, just these simple efforts on your part contribute a lot to reducing the world’s environmental problems.
