Steamed Herbal Chicken recipe shared here is a real no-brainer. Ingredients for this Steamed Herbal Chicken recipe are easy to find. Chinese herbs are used therefore sometimes called Chinese Herbal Chicken. Only 2 Chinese herbs are used in this Steamed Herbal Chicken recipe; pao sam and gei zhi (Cantonese saying). Both easily available pre-packed in shopping centres, Chinese medicine hall or Chinese groceries store.

Steamed Herbal Chicken preparation is simple regardless whole chicken or cut chicken is used. Using whole chicken, all ingredients are stuffed into the whole chicken from the chicken’s bottom. Then wrapped in aluminium foil and steamed till cooked. Using cut chicken, all ingredients are to be spread evenly on top of the chicken in a deep plate. However, salt water to be reduced to half and aluminium foil is not necessary. Do not steam for too long though.

Steam cooking method often creates “water” (sauce) for the dish therefore it is wise to use a deep plate for this Steamed Herbal Chicken. Bowl is not really recommended no matter for whole chicken or cut chicken. Pay attention to water level of the steamer; considering steaming duration you may need to add water occasionally as not to let water dries up resulting in damage to the steamer.

Herbs used for Steamed Herbal Chicken may be different in other herbal chicken recipes. Some other herbs in other herbal chicken recipes used include dried longan, cordyceps, red dates, wai sun. Too much of a hassle to get the herbs? Using same cooking method with only salt water, you can still get a Steamed Chicken alright. Tasty (and edible) but without the taste of herbs.

A tasty yet simple Steamed Herbal Chicken recipe allows time in within for you to prepare other exciting dishes to go with it or at least cut some fruits for dessert. Hope you like this recipe
